Dear Colleagues,

Welcome the last TBI {Inside} for 2017. Oh, did I really just say it? 2017 was a really exciting year for all of us. Through the year, we constantly updated you with the actions we take in order to move TBI Bank to a next level. In this edition of TBI {Inside}, we speak to Petr Baron, our CEO TBIF, about the successes and lessons learned in 2017 and the plans for 2018.

Since we are one organization, a key common purpose we had was to visually unify our existing brands. We’d like to present you our refreshed brand book – our personality and identity which governs the way we are seen and judged by the outside world, aligned to our vision of becoming a Next Generation Digital Lender. Our digitalization guru, ambassador, and CIO, Andreas Down will be our guest speaking about what is our daily mission. We will further give you more details on how we are going digital in the documents & process management. We proudly share with you how our Chairman, Valentin Galabov became ‘Banker of the Year’, what it is to be N1 and how we support Christmas charity initiatives.

We also have a challenge for all of you who are skiing masters!

Thanks for staying with us through the year, for all your support, recommendations for improvement, contribution and eagerness to learn more and more about what’s happening within our organization. May the magic of Christmas gladden your hearts with the joys of the season and have a wonderful New Year!

“2017 was a phenomenal year for us”

Аt the end of the year, we spoke to Petr Baron, the CEO of TBIF Financial Services, about the successes and lessons learned in 2017 and the plans for 2018

Petr, the end of the year is time for review – how far along is TBI on its journey to digitalization?

2017 was a truly transformational year, I believe the bank has come a very long way in that journey. Times are exciting, as we are challenging the established view of banking. This year we have geared up to moving from an offline consumer lender to the next-gen digital lender we wish to be. Whatever you touch in the organization, we have really progressed. We have recruited top talents in our team. We have successfully implemented several IT-projects – Provenir, iCollect, e-commerce on the Softelligence platform, prepared an overall goto architecture strategy. In business banking, we’ve launched many new products and remodeled our structure. In deposits we have rolled out an online platform in Romania, to be implemented in Bulgaria next year. On the other hand, we have also achieved a lot in our offline business which is still the true engine of our success. We have also progressed on corporate governance and in terms of our organization. Our image and the internal and external communication have reached the next level. We have progressed in the treasury operations and expanding the relationships with other banks. Yes, there were mistakes, but we have learned fast from them.

Furthermore, financially this is the most successful year for the bank, we are number one in the asset quality review test, and when it comes to return on equity and return on assets. Our chairman, Valentin Galabov, received the Banker of the year award.

We have huge aspirations and serious plans for 2018 but they could be reached only on the foundation of the transformational work our team has built in 2017.

We have huge aspirations and serious plans for 2018 but they could be reached only on the foundation of the transformational work our team has built in 2017.

What are the plans for 2018?

Our evolution will continue by mixing our banking experience with FinTech know-how and by incorporating the cutting-edge innovations that we develop together with our parent company – 4Finance Group. This is happening fast – the number of digital projects that we have launched in 2017 only is probably three or four times more than since the establishment of TBI! We will continue the same trajectory and compete even much intensely next year, as we did in the phenomenal 2017! In 2018 ‘Embrace your customer’ – our lending and distribution strategy putting the customer at the heart of all our actions, will take us to a next level. And we want to be number 1 – in technology, efficiency, and human capital. We want to be the preferred employer of choice – people in Bulgaria, Romania, and other European countries to dream of joining our team, TBI to be the best place to work. We will continue improving our internal processes and making them lean – and you have a pivotal role here by sharing your ideas on how to make it happen.

What are the challenges for the employees, connected to our digitalization journey?

I should stress that the team has been doing a great job. I met a lot of people, whom I am proud to work with. They understand the business and why we should move forward. We, unlike many companies, are offered a great chance to be part of very few other movers in the industry. There is nothing scary about the new reality and the Bulgarian and Romanian markets still offer a lot of offline opportunities and we will continue to pursue them.

We have great people at TBI, we value them a lot. But digitalization will free us all up from the internal bureaucracy, from fighting the skeletons in our own closet and allow us to focus on using our experience and expertise to solve customer needs. We could all learn from Warren Buffet, who was recently asked about the secret of success in business. “Don’t just satisfy your customers – delight them, he said. Anybody who has happy customers is likely to have a pretty good future”.

What is your New Year’s message to the team?

I wish you all wonderful holidays with your loved ones and a very happy new year. I am proud to work with both the people who have joined us and those who have been with us for many years. I thank everyone for the efforts in 2017, together we have achieved a lot this year and I am happy to work with each one of you. I look forward to facing the challenges of 2018 with the team that we have built. If we continue our trajectory, 2018 will be even a greater year.

CEO of TBIF Financial Services

We’re proud to share with you that the Chairman of our Management Board Mr. Valentin Galabov received the “Banker of the Year” award at the BANKER newspaper annual reception- an initiative with more than 25 years tradition. It was presented for his successful risk management and sustained the development of the financial institution.

The award is another testimony for the successful business model of the bank. In 2017, TBI Bank is ranked among the most efficient, well-managed and fast-growing banks on the Bulgarian market. The ratings of the financial media also show this results.

“This award is an honor for us, not because we receive it, but because we are doing our best as a small player in the banking sector. We continue to work towards quality banking services, sound risk management, and digital services development. As we say, one is as big as his dreams are. We continue to dream,” the chairman of the TBI Bank’s Management Board said.

Mr. Galabov was presented the award by Yordanka Fandakova, Sofia Municipality’s mayor. She noted the merits of the business in order for Sofia to become the city with the most dynamic development, to attract the most foreign investment and to produce 40% of Bulgaria’s GDP.

MEET & GREET

Our refreshed ‘Next Gen Digital Lender’ brand book

Every organization, like every individual, has a unique personality and identity which governs the way it is seen and judged by the outside world. One of its key elements is its visual identity, described in details in its corporate brand book. This is predominantly represented by a logotype, but also encompasses the overall uses of color, signage, printed material, advertising style and all other visual manifestations. Since we are one organization, a key common purpose of ours is to visually unify our existing brands. To do that, we had to refresh our brand book – our personality and identity and align it with our vision of becoming a Next Generation Digital Lender.

The inspiration for our refreshed design can be described in one word: minimalism – the use of fewest and barest essentials or elements. The focus is on space and simplicity. We chose this approach because it is close to the fintech culture and due to its clear benefits – designed around the content and works well in responsive environments. It is fast -less information equals less loading time and timeless, so we don’t have to worry about a printed job looking dated as soon as it leaves the printer. Simplicity can help us achieve better results, and, it stands out against all the other designs because it’s different. It’s like a white canvas, eager to boost our creativity…

The successful implementation of our visual identity will create maximum impact and synergy, whilst building awareness among our audiences.

Andreas Down ‘Digitalisation is our daily mission’

Our CIO, Andreas Down was invited among the leading panelists at the 5th Annual Conference “Banks & The Business”, held by Economedia on November 21.

“Тhe financial industry needs rethinking. The technology comes to the forefront and now, banks like TBI Bank are translating that into a convenient, quicker digital lending experience”, he said in front of bankers and business representatives at the forum.

Andy took part in a discussion focused on the up-to-date topic of how innovation and fintech solutions change the banking sector. As a leader of Bank’s digital transformation and passionate forward-thinker, he shared his vision on the trends that are driving this process.

“We have been digital for decades”, he said. “But what does it mean for the banking sector?! For me, digital transformation is to become customer-centric and to be able to react fast to demands and needs of our clients.”

“Digital transformation is not only a tech challenge”, Down pointed, “but also a challenge for the people in the organization. We started this process from within – with a change in our team’s mindset in order to be able to build products that are adequate to the changing world.”

Artificial Intelligence, big data, and chatbots are the major trends in the fintech banking environment that help the scale in that direction.

“TBI Bank is a clear example of how things are changing. We have a very successful offline business, offering to our customers an outstanding personal experience. There is a greater demand for innovative digital solutions now. That’s what we are doing – shortly, first in Romania we will launch a new online product based entirely on a digital process. How this challenge affects our banking business – reducing tendance and maintenance costs, accessibility anywhere, anytime, 24/7”, our CIO said.

Asked what differentiates TBI Bank from the other banks in that process, he replied: “The slogan NextGen Digital Lender is something that will be and should be in our organization gens, part of our daily mission. TBI Bank would like to be a “cool” company – one that understands customers needs, listen what they are saying in order to be able to give them the right product on time, put the customer in the center of the Universe. Yes, it takes time, but it is the right direction that will turn us into a NextGen Digital Lender.”

Andy’s personal message to all of us is  “2017 will be history very soon and a lot of things, progresses and changes have happened. More changes and progress will happen in 2018 to support our mission to become the next generation digital lender. We need your support and energy to realize our goals. Your creativity and assistance will be the foundation of our work. I would personally like to say THANK YOU to all of you, you are part of our success. Acting as one TEAM, we can achieve much, much more.  Teamwork, mutual support, honesty and trustfulness, sharing and collaboration should be the cornerstones of our daily work. I am proud to be part of this great TBI team! Wishing you and your families, a very nice and peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year. Let us all make 2018  the next very successful year in TBI history.”

To support our digitalization talks, we are happy to introduce to you our brand new system for documents and processes management Dokoni PROCESS, which is life as from the beginning of the month. Adding it to our software family, we are equipped to automate repetitive tasks, reduce processing time, limit the rework and errors, improve collaboration between the participants in a process, eliminate bottlenecks, perform self-service and a higher level of independence, track the performance and procedures compliance.

“The digital transformation is not only becoming customer centric and being able to react fast to demands and needs of our clients.” says Krum Todorov, business owner of the system.” It’s also about becoming employees centric and being able to react fast to demands and needs of our main clients – our colleagues.” adds Milena Manolova-Todorova who is the Project Manager.

We support Christmas charity initiative

We became a general partner of the “Bulgarian Christmas” – a charity initiative that raises funds for the treatment of children, under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev. Our Chairman, Valentin Galabov, announced the Bank’s support at the reception given at the Presidency for the upcoming launch of the initiative.

This charity initiative is one of the few examples in which the political and business elite managed to achieve unanimity in the name of humane public values. It is a privilege and a joy to join this socially significant cause, which traditionally brings together people with different professions and social status. We wish our charity and human empathy to become more and more widespread in our society, not just at Christmas, “said Valentin Galabov.

It is a privilege and a joy for us to take part in this socially significant cause, which traditionally brings together people with different professions and social status. Over the years, this campaign has become the embodiment of the hope and the expectations of children, their parents and our society that the country can have a noble cause in support of the nation’s most important capital – the health and the future of the children. The theme of its 15th edition is “Supporting the Rescue of Children’s Life”.

This is not just a donation campaign, but something much bigger. It gives us the belief and the feeling that we live in a civilized society that rests on human values. It bonds different social layers and invests in our biggest capital – the health of children.
