Dear colleagues,

It’s countdown time – we count the remaining days to the shared moments with our families, for some of us – the days to going back home. We are waiting for Christmas, expecting presents and looking forward to some time to relax.

But let’s stop dreaming for a moment and focus on the last working month of the year and let TBI Inside be a fun part of it. Looking back at the last few weeks, we’ve got a thing or two to be proud of. Here’s a hint: Monobank, MCA product launch. And there are so many other projects soon to go live.

But what do you do when you are as innovative and entrepreneurial as we are? You go out there and share your success with the world! That’s what we did both in Sofia and Bucharest, where we participated at the leading business forums on both our markets. Read below – in both cases, we were among the stars of the days.

In this edition of TBI Inside we’ll also give credit to some of our best salespeople. They were the ones who beat the rest in selling Vivus loans in our network and at Technomarket stores. These colleagues made a great example of being adaptive enough to sell a new product – and a real inspiration for the rest of us. The best salespeople got rewarded during a ceremony at TBI Bank’s HQ – you can see what their awards are in the main text.

Oh, and we’ve launched our Blog. It’s a Christmas-came-early moment for us 🙂

TBI Bank at the Banks & the Business conference in Sofia

How are we different from other banks? We love that question – and we’re happy to answer it at the annual Banks & the Business conference in Sofia. The discussion at hand was the trends in lending, banks’ cooperation with fintechs and the role of the latter in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Banks & the Business is the leading banking forum in Bulgaria, which brings together the most influential financial institutions and individuals. And Petr Baron, CEO of TBIF Financial Services (TBI Bank), was among the event’s top panelists. And we are different indeed – it may be by putting an orange touch in our outfit, but also in the ways, we support startups in all markets we are active on.

As part of 4finance, one of Europe’s largest digital consumer lending groups, TBI Bank is constantly integrating new solutions and working with some of the most inspirational fintechs worldwide. The Bank is also building partnerships with Bulgarian and Romanian startup companies to help develop the ecosystem in the countries it operates in.

“There are many ways of supporting innovative companies – we actually support some of the best startups and give them opportunities to test their technology by delivering solutions for us”, Petr explained during the conference.
“Fintechs add value as they can bring you closer to customers. Statistics and data do the same. We have a number of products, based on both technology and partnerships. We’ve launched them in Romania and will be bringing them to Bulgaria soon”,
Petr also said.


4finance reports results for first nine months – and TBI Bank is a star performer


4finance has published results for the first nine months of the year (ending 30 September 2018). The company reported profit before tax of €39.0 million for the period with TBI Bank contributing strongly to this result.

The Bank’s loan issuance volume during the period grew by 12% year-on-year to €197.0 million from €175.9 million in 9M 2017. Furthermore, the Bank’s active borrowing customers reached 0.40 million, up 8% from a year ago, with 0.24 million current accounts as of 30 September 2018, up 35% from a year ago.

Oyvind Oanes, CEO of 4finance, commented:

We continue to evolve and broaden our business model. This means developing our traditional single payment loan products into installment loans and lines of credit in some markets and continuing to advocate for appropriate and evidence-based regulation of subprime consumer lending. And it means gradually diversifying into the near-prime segment, as we are already doing in Lithuania with our existing Vivus brand, in Spain in partnership with mobile app Fintonic and will be piloting in Sweden with a new brand, as well as with TBI Bank, which lends predominantly to near-prime clients. Our recent investment in exciting Nordic digital bank Monobank is also part of this approach and is the first step in exploring a potential cooperation.”

How borrowing is no longer borrowing and how we make our partners happy? Gergana Staykova, our SVP Lending and Distribution, talks business in Standart newspaper.

She discussed the various ways TBI Bank is employing to ease lending, and also shed light on borrowing habits in Bulgaria. The Biz Days in Bucharest

Innovation is part of TBI Bank’s DNA: This is what we do and what we want to integrate into all our services in the upcoming years.

We partnered with Bizz Magazine for their whole-week business event, where each day had a special focus. We joined them for the second one when ‘innovation’ was the rule of the day. We were there as the only bank courageous enough to talk innovation alongside other tech companies.

Our charismatic Olga Gulkova, SVP Lean and Innovation, grabbed the attention together with Sergiu Negut, co-founder of our keen partners FintechOS. Together, they presented on the topic of integrating innovative features into the banking system – basically what our cooperation is all about.

They talked about the relationship between banks and fintechs, how TBI Bank was the first bank on the market to launch an e-commerce platform using video identification and electronic signature to give customers the chance to shop and pay in just 10-15 minutes without any visit to the bank, 24 hours a day.

Olga and Sergiu discussed intricate behind-the-scene processes that people don’t see; how ideas are materialized into final products only to give customers the service that would ease purchasing; how these ideas and adapt and improve nowadays lifestyle. It’s not easy, but it’s the challenge TBI Bank and its partners have set.

The event brought together banks, fintechs, software companies, as well as inventors. It was a stimulating bet, a winning one even, as it often happens when innovation diggers share the floor. Find out more HERE.

Best salespeople go to the best trips

The past months have been adventurous for TBI Bank’s team. And for some of us, they became a challenge. As we know, since April 2018, agents of TBI Bank are selling our partner Vivus’ product. To show them that hard work is being acknowledged and appreciated, Vivus held the first of its kind Sales competition. The rules were simple: top 3 branch sellers and the best seller at Technomarket win. The competition was held from July to September 2018. It was opened for every employee who sells our partner’s product. The 3 personal bankers who won are:

  • Milko Vakov from the office in Krasna Polyana, Sofia 2
  • Dobromir Kirev from the office Graf Ignatiev, Sofia 1
  • Hristina Dimitrova from the office in Druzhba 1, Sofia 1
  • The winner from Technomarket is Silviya Belcheva from Varna.

As rewards, the four of them will be sent on excursions in Bulgaria or abroad depending on their preferences.

A small ceremony at TBI Bank’s HQ was held to award the diligent employees. Some the main people behind the idea were our National Sales Director – Jeliazko Jeliazkov, Managing Director of 4finance AS – Zdravko Raychev and the Masters of the South and of the North – Irina Dimitrova and Violeta Rabadjieva. All of them congratulated the winners personally at the ceremony. After the official part, they chatted about customer’s profiles and other stuff in the industry.

Traveling is great, especially when the trip is a deserved gift. For the readers of TBI Inside, the organizers shared that plans are to make the competition an annual thing. Furthermore, they decided to hold a second competition just after the end of the first one, which means that the same sales contest will be available during the last quarter of 2018 as well. To all of you who are selling the product of Vivus – good luck and we are hoping to meet you at the HQ at the next ceremony.

Rumour has it blogs are a good way to promote business content in a non-intrusive way. And that’s exactly what our blog will do.

Integrated into TBI Bank’s website, the BLOG’s purpose will be to share in-house generated content to the wider public. Regular editorial topics include new products and services, dedicated campaigns, as well as tips and trick for our customers so as to improve their financial lives. It’s a cost-effective investment that will help us build better brand awareness, promote our expertise in the sector, and it helps a lot with search engine optimization (SEO). (Plus, it’s fun too!)
